Appointment of Shri. Anupam Shrivastava for the post of BSNL CMD has been approved by Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on 15-01-2015. Currently he is serving as Director (Consumer Mobility) at the PSU.
Shrivastava’s tenure as CMD was to begin on May 1, 2013 but then telecom minister Kapil Sibal held back the recommendation and granted extension to RK Upadhyay till June 30. At present, BSNL’s Director Enterprises – AN Rai is handling the additional charge of CMD.
New CMD Anupam Shrivastava said, “Government is focusing on connecting unconnected people with telecom services including high speed broadband. As BSNL CMD it will be my priority area to work with government in connecting people at affordable cost, expeditiously and at turning around BSNL into a profitable venture.”
He also said, “I will take up important pending project of NOFN, mobile service in Left-wing extremist affected areas, network for spectrum on priority basis, connecting unconnected villages.”
As per sources, Shrivastava will continue to handle additional charge of consumer mobility director.
BSNL is working lay about 1.6 lakh kilometres of optical fibre cable (OFC) in 408 districts covering over 81,000 village panchayats under Phase-1 NOFN.
