Kochi to be the First Corporation in India providing Free WiFi Connectivity to public in association with BSNL. As we have reported earlier, BSNL announced the launch of Public WiFi services in major cities, malls, universities etc. in partnership with QuadGen Wireless Solutions Pvt Ltd.
Initially BSNL will start WiFi services at 10 major locations which are Fort Kochi, Mattancherry, Marine Drive, High Court, Subhash Park, Corporation Main Office, Vyttila Mobility Hub, Jos Junction, Edappally Junction & Kaloor from 1st April 2015 onwards.
BSNL Mobile customers would be able to access these public WiFi network to surf high speed internet at a download speed of 10Mbps. WiFi Access Points / Hotspots will be installed and maintained by QuadGen Wireless Solutions and BSNL will provide the necessary bandwidth.
For availing of the facility, one needs to create a password and user ID using a valid mobile phone number.
Key Features of BSNL WiFi Internet
- BSNL will be offering 15 Minutes Free WiFi internet to each individual customer per day.
- The free offer will be extended depending on the traffic and demand of the customers.
- Customers can get WiFi coverage up to 300 meters from the Access Point / Hotspot.
- WiFi tariff plans will be 30% more economical than 3G/2G mobile internet data tariff.
- Prepaid & Postpaid offers will be available
- Online Recharge / purchase of WiFi Coupons will be made available
- WiFi Tethering is allowed and customers can share WiFi internet in different devices like Laptops, Mobile Phones, Desktop etc.
The Wi-Fi zones will become fully operational by March and the general public can access the facility from April onwards. The towers for offering the facility will be placed at a height of around 10 metres and there would not be any radiation hazards.

1. First of all, I feel we should not go in for 4G now. 2. Wait till Airtel is ready with 4G. Why we submit ourselves as guinea pigs for their experiments? 3.For a normal home user, 4G will work out to be very costly. 4.There is no proper coverage for the network now. 5.We, customers are mistreated, because of their monopoly attitude. 6.Reliance and Tata docomo should come in the market fast.Then only the situation will improve. 7.For a home user, my suggestion is that if you are roughly satisfied with the present broadband connection, which you are using, stick to that. It may look the "grass is greener on the other side".
