Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the latest telecom subscription data as on 31st December 2014. As per this report, the number of broadband subscribers increased from 82.22 million at the end of November, 2014 to 85.74 million at the end of December, 2014 with monthly growth rate of 4.28%.
India’s largest Mobile Operator Airtel becomes the largest Broadband Service Provider with 19.19 million subscribers. North-East service area recorded the highest growth rate in wireless subscribers during the month of December, 2014 whereas Kerala and Mumbai service areas showed decline in subscriber base during the month.
Airtel has got 19.19 million broadband subscribers pushing BSNL to the second place with 18.90 million users. Vodafone is at third spot with 16.65 million users. Idea Cellular and Reliance Communications secured 4th and 5th position with 12.95 million and 7.11 million user base.
At the end of December 2014, India had 85.74 million broadband users, out of which 70.42 million are on wireless broadband and rest 15.32 million on wired broadband.
Top five service providers constituted 87.24% market
share of total broadband subscribers at the end of December, 2014. These
service providers were Bharti Airtel (19.19 million), BSNL (18.90
million), Vodafone (16.65 million), Idea Cellular Ltd (12.95 million)
and Reliance Communications Group (7.11 million).
The total number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 964.20 million at the end ofNovember, 2014 to 970.97 million at the end of November, 2014, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.7%
