National telecom backbone Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) offers Free Static IP addresses to customers who subscribed to Broadband Internet Services. Static IP addresses are needed for special applications like Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP), to host a gaming website or to play X-Box, Play Station.
Static IP addresses are also great if you use your computer as a server, as it should give your file server faster file uploads and downloads. People also use static IP address for secure access to company’s network through VPN (Virtual Private Network) connectvity etc. BSNL offers Free Static IP Address with High Speed Broadband Internet plans on request.
An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a unique number assigned to every device on a network. Just as a street address determines where a letter should be delivered, an IP address identifies computers on the Internet. Network devices use IP addresses to communicate with each other.
Difference between static and dynamic IPs
In Static IP Addressing, an Internet Service Provider (ISP) will assign olny one IP address to one customer. That means, whenever a customer logs on to internet, the ISP will assign the same IP address to him.
In Dynamic IP addressing, the ISP will assign different IP address each time the customer logs on to internet. Generally all broadband customers are alloted dynamic IP address by BSNL.
Static IP address is needed for special applications like – running web servers, for VPN connectivity, for Voice over IP applications etc.
BSNL Static IP Address Plans and Offers
BSNL offers One Free Static IP address with all broadband internet plans having monthly rental of Rs 2799 and above. In addition, BSNL may also issue the Second Static IP at an annual charges of Rs 1500/- to all Broadband Internet customers having monthly rental of Rs 2799 and above where one free static IP is already available.
Customers in lower broadband plans may also get statis IP address on request with additional charges. One Statis IP address will be provided to all Broadband customers whose monthly rental is Rs 1000 and above.
