Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has asked BSNL to cover 203 tourist places with High Speed 3G Data Services. The list of these important tourist locations were given to BSNL to examine the commercial viability of installing new 3G sites at the earliest. Theses locations are currently covered by BSNL 2G connectivity only.
BSNL has already providing Free WiFi Broadband Services at major tourist locations in the country. Recently, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated BSNL Free WiFi service at Taj Mahal. Tourism department wants to provide high speed broadband facility for all tourists visiting these locations.
As per the latest information, BSNL has started looking into the project and has asked all district level offices (SSAs) to examine all these cases mentioned by the Ministry of Tourism. BSNL has also clarified that 2G connectivity is already available in all these locations.
The list of important locations given by Ministry of Tourism includes – Rameswaram, Hogenakkal, Kanniyakumari, Kollur, Dantewada etc.
