National telecom backbone Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is all set to launch its ‘Next Generation (NGN) Services’ on PAN India basis. NGN services includes – Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), IP Centrex, Prepaid IVRS and Multi Media Video Conferencing (MMVC).
As we reported earlier, BSNL started upgrading its landline telephone exchanges to IP based Next Generation System. The up gradation process is being carried out in a phased manner across all telecom circles. As per the latest information, the Phase-I up gradation work has almost completed and the Phase-II installation work already started.
NGN services like Fixed Mobile Convergence / Fixed Mobile Telephony will allow BSNL Customers to receive and make calls from anywhere in the world through internet. With FMC services, BSNL Customers will be allowed to sync their Landline & Mobile accounts.
To commercially launch these new and innovative services to both BSNL Landline and Mobile Customers, BSNL has instructed all its telecom circles to open new short codes in all MSCs/GMSCs exclusive for Class-5 NGN Services. NGN services will be accessible from BSNL Mobile subscribers also.

BSNL NGN (Next Generation Network) is IP based, state of the art new telephone technology that handles multiple types of traffic (such as Voice, Data and Multimedia). NGN services including Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC), MMVC and IP Centrex etc will be available only in those telephone exchanges which are already up-graded to the latest Class-5 NGN System.
