State run telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is set to cross 10% market share very soon says Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. BSNL managed to arrest the declining trend with many customer friendly initiatives like – Free All India Roaming, Free Night Calling, Lowest 3G Data Tariff etc.
The Minister also clarified that, at present Government has no proposal to merge BSNL and MTNL. Both these PSUs (BSNL and MTNL) are trying their best to generate the maximum revenues for their revival and revitalization.
BSNL’s market share as on March 31, 2014 was 12.88 per cent, which had declined to 9.36 per cent as on March 31, 2015, and in the current year, the market share was 9.43 per cent.

BSNL’s income from services has increased by 4.16% in 2014-15 as compared to 2013-14. BSNL’s

“BSNL has earned an operating profit of Rs 672 crore in 2014-15. The operating profit is likely to be much higher during 2015-16. The net losses for 2015-16 are expected to be reduced by 20% as compared to 2014-15,” the Minister added.
BSNL managed to maintain healthy figures in MNP (Mobile Number Portability) with net addition of +2,50,666 mobile connections during 2015-16. Around 31 lakh net mobile connection increased during 2015-16. The data revenue has increased by 50% in 2015-16 as compared to 2014-15.
