In February 2016, BSNL’s wireless subscriber addition and monthly growth rate reached its peak. The PSU achieved No.1 position monthly growth rate of wireless subscribers beating the major private players like – Airtel, Vodafone and Idea. BSNL added more than 13.9 lakhs of new mobile customers and thereby increasing its market share from 8.20% to 8.26%.
As we reported earlier, the performance of BSNL in wireless subscriber addition and monthly growth rate is continuously increasing from July 2015 on wards – after the launch of FREE All India Roaming Scheme.

Among BSNL units, all telecom circles achieved positive growth in wireless subscriber addition except Andhra Pradesh (-3,517) and Karnataka (-66,028) in February 2016. The best performers are UP East (+1,99,431), Bihar (+1,89,561), Maharashtra (+1,47,513), Rajasthan (+1,25,507) and Kerala (+1,14,514).
BSNL holds the No.1 position in Landline segment with 58.63% market share. Airtel holds the No.1 position in Broadband segment (Wired + Wireless) position with 25.49% market share and Vodafone at second position with 18.25% market share as on 29th February 2016.
Total wireless subscriber base increased from 1017.97 million at the end of January 2016 to 1026.66 million at the end of February 2016, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.85%.
As on 29th February 2016, the private access service providers held 91.38% market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSUs access service providers, held only 8.62% market share.
Five service providers constituted 83.60% market share of total
broadband subscribers at the end of February 2016. These service
providers were Bharti Airtel (36.92 million), Vodafone (26.44 million),
Idea Cellular Ltd (22.20 million), BSNL (19.91 million) and Reliance
Communications Group (15.64 million).

In the month of February 2016, a total of 5.10 million subscribers submitted their requests for MNP. With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 199.62 million at the end of January 2016 to 204.73 million at the end of February 2016.
