National telecom backbone and India’s One and Only NGN Service provider, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) plans to roll-out PAN India 4G services on FDD-LTE technology.
As per the latest information, BSNL has floated Detailed Notice Inviting e-Tender (DNIT) on 18th May 2016 against Phase VIII.4 Project for expansion of existing UMTS (3G) Network of BSNL along with Replacement of phase IV 2G equipment. As part of the said project BSNL is planning to introduce 4G LTE services on FDD-LTE technology.
The purchase is estimated to be worth more than $1 billion which includes planning, engineering, supply, installation,testing, commissioning and annual maintenance of 3GPP mobile network expansion with 2G/3G/4G network equipments for about 31.02 million lines in North, East, West and South Zones.
BSNL plans to add around 22,517 new 3G Node Bs and 10,000 4G e Node Bs across all telecom circles. BSNL will accept bids for new equipment purchase till 1st July 2016.

The PSU is mainly focusing on expanding its mobile network to increase its data handling capacity. On 14th May 2016, BSNL’s total mobile data consumption reached its peak at 301.86 TB with South Zone registering the highest data usage of 135.56 TB. BSNL witnessed a steady growth of 65% in data volumes on year to year on basis. South Zone registered more than 100% rise in data volumes on year to year basis.
BSNL registered an operating profit of Rs 672 crore during the last financial year, while its gross revenue from services grew 4.16% to Rs 28,645 crore. The company is expecting to cross revenue of Rs 30,000 crore in the year ended on 31st March 2016, up 3-4% higher than last year.

As per the latest TRAI telecom subscription data for the month of March 2016, BSNL activated 15 lakh new mobile connections and tops in monthly growth rate beating Airtel, Vodafone and Idea.
