Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) received maximum complaints on poor quality of service and call drops against private mobile operators – Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance and Idea since 2013.
Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha informed on 20th July 2016 in Parliament that maximum consumer complaints for poor quality of service and call drops have been received against leading private mobile operators – Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance and Idea in the last three years and the trend still continues.
As per the information shared by telecom minister, TRAI received a total of 9720 complaints for poor quality of services in the first half of 2016 (i.e., up to 30th June 2016). Out of this, 3257 complaints have been made against Airtel, 2130 against Vodafone, 1526 against Reliance and 997 against Idea.
Around one-third complaints received in the first half of 2016 are against Airtel whereas complaints against other players including state run BSNL were below 500 in the first half of 2016.
There has been a similar trend of complaints against these companies in the last three years starting 2013. In 2015, TRAI received 6131 complaints against Airtel, 5387 against Vodafone, 3527 against Reliance and 2594 against Idea, 1465 against Tata Teleservices and 1444 against state-run BSNL. The increasing number of customer complaints on call drops reveals that the quality of telecom services offered by private mobile operators are becoming worse day by day whereas the performance of BSNL is encouraging. Latest TRAI subscriber addition report indicates that, more and more customers are migrating to BSNL from private operators because of the Unique Offers being provided by BSNL like – FREE All India Roaming, FREE To Home Service, Mobile Data Offloading, Lowest 3G/2G Data packs etc.
