The entry of Reliance Jio into the Indian telecom market has initiated tariff war among all existing telecom operators including state run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
Reliance Jio’s entry into the market is really a challenge for all operators since they have to face stiff and intense competition especially in tariff plans from the new entrant. BSNL CMD Shri Anupam Shrivastava said that the PSU will adopt an aggressive stance on tariffs.
In the given telecom scenario today, where competition is already cut-throat, advent of Reliance Jio is going to have varied impacts on all telecom players. As a PSU, BSNL cannot wish away or woo away any new entrant in telecom market, but can give more emphasis on utilizing our employee strength to maintain the robust network in all circles.
BSNL have been providing transparent services with attractive tariffs to our customers coupled with trust of being a 100% Government of India PSU.
BSNL CMD said – “As far as challenge is concerned, we cannot wish it away. I believe, BSNL is in a position to match Reliance Jio’s tariffs most successfully, because we are incumbent operator. We are landline and optical fibre operator so our broadband tariff rides on our own network. We don’t have to start procuring, investing and then come out with offerings.”
The PSU has already announced various promotional plans and attractive offers for its Mobile and Landline/Broadband Customers. He also added that, BSNL is also planning to launch Free Voice Calls for its Mobile customers.
“We could consider giving voice free, from our network but after charging some fixed monthly rate. Fixed Mobile Telephony and Fixed Mobile Convergence are going to be the basis of free voice calls,” – BSNL CMD added.
The PSU has already strategically moulded its future plans to not only compete with a new strong entrant but to put BSNL into advantageous position to derive opportunities. As industry is matured enough to recognize the power of co-operative competition, BSNL is going to follow Co-opetition strategy i.e., competitive as well as collaborative strategy.
Some of the latest offers announced by BSNL for its Mobile, Broadband and Landline Customers are summarized below:
