Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has decided to discontinue its wireless broadband service – WiMax – in three telecom circles – Kerala, Punjab and UP(East) with effect from 31st March 2020.
As per the latest information, all the existing BSNL WiMax customers in these telecom circles will be migrated alternate connectivity solutions like – 4G / 3G / ADSL Broadband / FTTH. New customer registration for WiMax service is already blocked in these telecom circles.
BSNL authorities has directed its field units to issue notice for 30 days to all existing customers regarding the closure of service. Since the AAA certificate for the service is valid only till 02-03-2020, Kerala Circle has to close the services as on 29-02-2020.
Existing WiMax customers can opt for BSNL Fiber Broadband services which is being provided by BSNL in association with local cable TV operators. Service quality for FTTH service is superior and customers may enjoy premium ultra high speed broadband experience bundled with Free Hotstar Premium and Amazon Prime subscriptions. BSNL has already launched 200Mbps FTTH broadband plans in Chennai, Telangana & Tamil Nadu circles with FUP limit of 1500GB. Similar plans will be launched in other telecom circles very soon.
As per the latest BSNL revival package approved by the Government of India, spectrum for 4G services is already sanctioned for BSNL. The PSU has already started optimizing its network elements so that 4G roll-out can completed within a short span of time. BSNL is already having spectrum in different bands – 900MHz, 1800MHz , 2100MHz and 2400MHz. The PSU will be utilizing carrier aggregation technology so as to ensure higher data rates in 4G with all available frequency bands. Carrier Aggregation is a technology to combine two or more carriers into one data channel to enhance the data capacity. It is possible to combine carriers in the same or different frequency bands.
