State run telecom major – Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has started operations in Delhi & Mumbai by taking over MTNL’s mobile network from 1st January 2021. As we reported earlier, DoT granted Unified License to BSNL on 10th December 2020 in all the 22 telecom circles in India including Delhi & Mumbai for a period of 20 years.
As per the latest information, BSNL will function as an outsourced agency to run mobile network operations of MTNL with effect from 1st January 2021. BSNL CMD submitted a proposal in this regard on 27th October 2020 to Department of Telecommunication (DoT). That proposal was discussed in detail with Directors of BSNL and MTNL in the presence of Additional Secretary (DoT) on 15th December 2020.
DoT in its letter dated 31st December 2020 instructed CMD BSNL to start operations of MTNL’s mobile network in Delhi & Mumbai with effect from 1st January 2021 as its outsourced agency. DoT further instructed CMD BSNL to complete all necessary formalities at the earliest. It is also informed that, the responsibility of regulatory compliance shall continue with MTNL for Delhi & Mumbai LSAs.
It means, MTNL customers in Delhi & Mumbai will continue to be enjoy mobile services through its present network. However, the operations of MTNL mobile network will be managed by BSNL Officials. There will not be any changes from customer perspective as DoT has clarified that MTNL function as such and they will be responsible for all regulatory reporting and compliance.
Areas Covered by MTNL : Delhi & Mumbai LSAs
Delhi service areas included National Capital Region (NCR) such as Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad while Mumbai service area would cover New Mumbai and Kalyan.
As we reported earlier, BSNL customers can can enjoy seamless connectivity in Delhi & National Capital Region (NCR) area in association with Vodafone. BSNL prepaid as well as postpaid mobile customers roaming in to Delhi & NCR area can access Vodafone Delhi mobile network in addition to MTNL roaming. <<<Click Here To See Details of Vodafone Roaming>>> The incoming voice call for BSNL customer roaming in Delhi with M/s Vodafone as VLMN will be charged @ Rs. 0.45/minute. The above tariff / charges is applicable to both prepaid and postpaid mobile customers of BSNL.
BSNL has floated an EoI (Expression of Interest) on 1st January 2021 for registration cum participation in the upcoming 4G tender for Indian telecom manufacturing companies. BSNL intend to rollout next generation 4G network in nearly 57,000 tower sites including Mumbai & Delhi LSAs.
