BSNL – the one and only state run telecom company in India – could activate more than 1.5Crore new mobile connections in the previous financial year. The PSU deserves special appreciation for this marvelous performance because, the previous financial year 2020-21 was a challenging one in view of Covid-19 lockdowns, non-expansion of 4G networks, abolition of mobile IUC charges and fierce competition from private operators.
Overcoming all these challenges, Team BSNL was able to generate more revenue from the mobile segment than in the previous financial year. BSNL’s SIM sales performance also witnessed a sudden hype in the last month of previous financial year i.e., on March 2021. BSNL’s total SIM sales reached the best ever figure of 2.16 millions in March 2021. The best performers in SIM sales during the previous financial year were – Chennai Telecom District (121%) & Haryana (110%) telecom circle.

Best Performers in March 2021
As for Circle wise SIM sale performance of March 2021, Chennai (457%), Haryana (138%), UP (East)(123%), Gujrat (121%), Rajasthan (116%), Punjab (111%) and UP(West) (104%) circles were able to achieve the given targets during March 2021.
Worst Performers in March 2021
NE-II (19%), NE-I (29%), Jharkhand (35%), Chhattisgarh (48%), Kerala (51%), WB (51%), J&K (52%) and Andaman & Nicobar (58%), circles have managed to achieve less than 60% of their respective targets for March 2021 are worst performers. North East II, North East I, Jharkhand, Kerala, Uttaranchal & J&K are appearing in the bottom 10 in SIM sale achievement since last three months.
As we reported, BSNL has launched several attractive tariff plans and special tariff vouchers to increase its market share and to improve revenue performance. Recently, BSNL launched Chillar Balance Transfer – a new innovative facility which is beneficial for both customers as well as BSNL Retailers / DSAs / RDs. Under Chillar Balance Transfer Scheme, BSNL offers Full Talk time from ₹1 to ₹ 9. BSNL Retailers / DSAs / RDs can top up the balance amount from ₹1 to ₹9 when you recharge BSNL customers above ₹30. BSNL Retailers may not face the issue of non-availability of change (chillar) while doing recharge transactions of odd amounts. With BSNL Chillar Balance Transfer facility, customers main account will be credited with the balance amount. The facility was initially launched in Kerala Circle on 9th April 2021 and the same got implemented in Tamil Nadu circle on 10th April 2021. It is expected that, the same will further implemented across all the telecom circles within a couple of days.
