BSNL allows public Static IP address to broadband internet customers in plans starting from fixed monthly charge (FMC) of Rs 999/- onwards. Public static IP addresses are needed for special applications like Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), to host a gaming website or to play X-Box, Play Station, for CCTV surveillance etc.
Usually dynamic IP addresses are assigned by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) on need basis. When your modem tries to connect to the internet, it requests an IP address to use during the session. If you are not using the allocated IP address for a certain amount of time determined by the individual ISP, or sometimes even if the modem simply reboots, that IP address can be reassigned to another modem. In case of Public Static IP address, your modem will always get the same IP address. It means, whenever your modem gets connected to the internet, you will get the same public IP address.
People also use static IP address for secure access to company’s network through VPN (Virtual Private Network) connectivity etc. BSNL offers Free Static IP Address with High Speed Broadband Internet plans on request.

How can I get public Static IP from BSNL ?
If monthly rent of your existing broadband plan [DSL Broadband or Bharat Fiber (FTTH) or Bharat Air Fibre (BAF)] is lower than Rs 999/- you can avail Static IP only by upgrading your plan to a higher plan having minimum monthly rental above Rs 999/-.
You can upgrade your BSNL broadband internet plan via BSNL Selfcare Portal or through BSNL Customer Service Centers (BSNL CSC). Online plan upgradation process is so simple and it can be done from the comfort of your home/office.
After upgrading your broadband plan having minimum monthly rental of Rs 999/- or above, you need to submit request for public Static IP address along with duly signed declaration form for static IP address in your nearest BSNL Customer Service Centre. You will be allotted a new public Static IP address on the same day by BSNL.
How can I check/verify whether public static IP address is allocated to me?
You can see the public IP address assigned to you by checking the IP address info on your router page. If you are not familiar with router page, just visit https://www.whatismyip.com/ and note down your present IP address. Now, just restart your broadband modem ( or FTTH ONT) and recheck your new IP address. In both cases, if you are getting the same IP address, then it is pretty sure that BSNL has allocated static IP address on your broadband connection.
