State run telecom major, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched USSD based activation of prepaid mobile vouchers (STVs) through a new USSD short code *444#.
Now, BSNL prepaid mobile customers may activate their favourite Data STVs and Voice STVs just by dialing the USSD Code *444*MRP# where MRP is the denomination of prepaid voucher to be recharged. USSD based activation procedure / format is the same in all BSNL telecom circles.
As we reported earlier, BSNL launced USSD activation of Night Data STVs through short code *444#. Now, the following 37 common STV’s can be activated through USSD short code *444# along with direct short code *444*MRP# (example: *444*4#, *444*68# etc). Availability of circle wise STVs in short code *444# will be implemented later.

NOTE: Each vouchers’USSD based activation;code should be *444*MRP#. MRP stands for Denomination of the prepaid voucher to be recharged.
Recently, BSNL installed new USSD Gateway at Chandigarh and Chennai. At present, each zone in BSNL has their own USSD based activation code and procedures, which is preventing BSNL from effectively utilizing USSD mode of recharge. Further, due to zone wise different USSD codes and activation procedures, it is not possible to market and popularize this mode of recharge on Pan-lndia level. ln order to streamline the USSD based activation, a common USSD code on Pan -lndia basis is needed. Hence BSNL authorities has decided to allot a new USSD short code *444# exclusive for activation of prepaid mobile Data & Voice STVs.
