State run PSU and India’s Largest Landline Service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) announced the withdrawal of ‘Customer Owned Modem’ option under ADSL / VDSL Broadband Services from 1st September 2015 onwards across all telecom circles.
Earlier, BSNL allowed its customers to purchase Broadband Modem of their choice from open market. As per the latest information, customers may purchase broadband modem only from BSNL. It means, customers are not allowed to buy broadband modem from open market.
An official statement from BSNL regarding the withdrawal of Customer Owned Modem option, said –
It has been decided by the Competent Authority to withdraw ‘customer owned modem’ option under DSL Broadband services for the new Broadband customers in all the Circles. However, for exceptional cases only where customers insist to use their modem, commercial officer of the area is authorized to allow ‘customer owned modem’ through CDR system at the time of provisioning.
