BSNL Kerala Circle has commissioned it’s new Intelligent Network (IN) at Trichy for handling prepaid mobile customers. The new IN switch costs Rs.40 crore and it can handle around 82.5 Million calls at a time. This switch has got 4 times higher capacity than the old IN switch which was at Paravur.
The migration of all prepaid mobile numbers of Kerala circle to Trichy IN was done in a phased manner. The migration process was started on 16-12-2014 and has completed on 23-12-2014. There are changes in the SMS key words and USSD short codes for prepaid mobile customers.
Since this new IN switch at Trichy has got 4 times higher capacilty than the old one, this upgradation will reduce the complaints about BSNL Mobile services to a great extent.
After the implementation of Mobile Number Portability (MNP), BSNL Kerala circle has got tremendous response from the public. Around 9.92 Lakhs of New Mobile Customers joined BSNL Network from other operators through MNP while 3.35 Lakhs of existing customers left BSNL.
The major changes are in the prepaid STV balance enquiry short code, SMS Key words (SMS short codes) and the SMS number for the activation of STVs through SMS. Services associated with the number 53733 has been changed to 123. Prepaid STV balance enquiry short code will be *124*2# ( or send sms STVENQ to 123).
To know Own Mobile Number : Dial *888#
To know Prepaid Account Balance : Dial *123# or Dial *124#
To know STV Balance : Dial 124*2# or Send sms STVENQ to 123
The new IN also offers USSD selfcare service (through *124#) which enables a prepaid customers to check their balance, activate STVs, change the current prepaid mobile plan, Friends & Family number change etc. USSD selfcare service can be accessed by dialling *124#.
Changes in the current procedures are:
- Cumulative topup facility for validity extension is not available for New Mithram Plan. Validity will be given for all top up recharge for a maximum period of 180 days. (Top Up 10 offers 9 days validity, Top Up 20 offers 18 days validity and so on.)
- Accumulation of Data STVs of different denominations is not possible. Only STVs of same MRP will be accumulated.

New SMS Keywords for STV Activation
To activate STVs, send the new STV Code to 123. Now customers may dial a single USSD short code *124*2# to get the details of all activated STVs (VOICE/COMBO/DATA/SMS/ISD). To get STV balance can through SMS, send STVENQ to 123.
