Department of Telecommunication has allocated new short codes 12890 to Sabarimala Pilgrims & 14588 to National Health Authority (NHA) for CGHS, ESI & CAPF schemes.
BSNL opened these new short codes as per the directions of DOT as a Category-1 Service. It means, these newly launched toll free short coded will be available from any telecom network in India. Short Code allocated to Sabarimala Pilgrims – 12890 – is a charged service and not a toll free number whereas Short Code 14588 is a toll free number.
These newly launched short codes – 12890 & 14588 are available across the country to all the states and union territories of the nation. These short codes will be opened in all Local Exchanges, TDM Tax / IP Tax / Soft Switches / Mobile MSC / GMSC / WLL MSC / NCNGN switches of all Telecom circles.
Features of Short Code – 12890 – allocated to Sabarimala Pilgrims are :-
- Category-l service’ ( i.e. mandatory service to be provided by at the Access providers )
- Accessibility: Un-restricted, i.e. available on STD also
- Metered Service: It may be taken as Calling party pays with termination number 04735-203100.
Short Code allocated to Sabarimala Pilgrims – 12890 – will be mapped with the termination number 04735-203100. It is to be accessible from prepaid / postpaid mobile customers of all zones and other private operators to open short code 12890 and STD Code + 12890 route to BSNL as per existing routing guideline. Call charging is applicable as per interconnect agreement.
Features of Toll Free Short Code – 14588 – allocated to National Health Authority for CGHS, CAPF & ESI schemes are :-
- Category-l service’ ( i.e. mandatory service to be provided by at the Access providers )
- Accessibility: Un-restricted, i.e. available on STD also
- Metered Service: Called party pays.
Short Code 14588 will be available as a helpline for the beneficiaries of Central Health Schemes like – CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme), ESI (Employees’ State Insurance) and CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) Insurance schemes to National Health Authority. This short code will be available to general public as a Toll Free number which can be accessible even on STD.
