BSNL slashes Safe Custody Charges for FTTH & Air Fiber connections

BSNL has announced the revision in Safe Custody Charges for FTTH & Air Fiber Customers in Kerala Telecom Circle.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the National telecom backbone has announced the revision in Safe Custody Charges for Bharat Fiber (FTTH) & Bharat Air Fiber (BAF) connections. As per the latest information, existing safe custdy charges for fiber based plans including air fiber services are reduced for BSNL customers in Kerala Telecom Circle. With this latest tariff update, BSNL safe custody charges are just Rs 150/- per month for FTTH & Air Fiber connections.

As we reported in May 2021, BSNL rationalised Safe Custody Charges for Landline, DSL Broadband, Bharat Fiber (FTTH) & Air Fiber Connections. After that revision, BSNL safe custody charges were increased to Rs 300/- per month for FTTH connections which were previoulsy working in plans with monthly rent of Rs 800/- and above. Similarly, the safe custody charges for FTTH & Air Fiber plans with monthly rent below Rs 801/- was also increased to Rs 200/- per month.

Safe Custody plans are normally opted by customers who do not intend to use their telephone or internet facilities for short periods because of their absense. BSNL Safe custody plans allows customers to retain their existing telephone numbers without disconnecting services. The above tariff update has caused severe damage to such customers because of this increased monthly charges. To arrest heavy disconnection from such customers, BSNL authorities in Kerala Telecom Circle has requested Corporate Office, New Delhi to reduce the safe custody charges.

An Official statement from BSNL regarding the revision in Safe Custody Charges read as follows:-

As per the proposal from BSNL Kerala Telecom Circle, it has been decided by the competent authority to revise the charges of ‘Safe Custody’ plan for all the categories of Voice/Standalone/Combo Landline/Broadband connections (DSL/Fibre/AirFibre) in Kerala Telecom Circle as below:-

All other terms and condition shall remain same as per earlier tariff updates issued in May 2021 and July 2021. Above charges are exclusive of GST. BSNL Corporate Office has directed Kerala Telecom circle to comply with all regulatory requirements including on line reporting to TRAI and also update the circle website. The above instructions shall be applicable with effect from 07-12-2021 on regular basis in Kerala Telecom Circle only.

Terms & conditions for providing ‘Safe Custody’ plans:–

• The Safe custody of connection shall be permitted on written request of the subscriber, clearly indicating that the connection is to be kept under ‘Safe Custody’.
• All the Voice connections under Fibre shall be treated as combo during safe custody.
• Customer will be charged above rates per month from the time of intimation of safe custody to the time of termination of safe custody. Customer shall be educated properly at the time of request initiation.
• No revenue share shall be paid to Partners for Safe Custody charges.
• The Modem / CPE / Accessories supplied by the BSNL/Partners (i.e. not customer owned) shall be recovered from the customer for keeping the same under safe custody.
• If ‘half yearly / annual / biennial / triennial’ payment customer opts to safe custody plan, as is done in other annual payment cases, adjustment credit will be given to the customer for the unutilized period and will get adjusted in the subsequent invoices.
• All the above charges are excluding GST. The charges for safe custody plans to be paid in advance.

How to Activate BSNL Safe Custody Plan?

The service shall be permitted only on written request of the authorized subscriber to concerned commercial officer at nearest BSNL Customer Service Center (BSNL CSC) clearly indicating that the connection (Landline / Bharat Fiber / Air Fiber / BBoWiFi) is to be kept under ‘Safe Custody’ from the date. The advance rent also need to be paid at the time of application for the safe custody period.

How to restore BSNL landline / Broadband / FTTH connection from Safe Custody?

BSNL landline / broadband / FTTH / Air Fiber connection will be released only on written request from the customer (Application form for Plan change). To get their telephone facilities activated, a customer need to submit written request in nearest BSNL Office or BSNL Customer Service Center (BSNL CSC). Customer can choose any plan at the time of restoration of service.
