Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched Free All India Roaming to all Prepaid and Postpaid Mobile customers across India from 15 June 2015, on PAN India basis. The scheme has already made an impact in Indian telecom market, as BSNL Kerala Circle acquired 18,000 customers through Mobile Number Portability (MNP).
On completing one month, the response from customers are really encouraging. More customers are expected to port into BSNL as the company has launched Full Mobile Number Portability and new 3G/2G data offers. BSNL launched 3G/2G Data STVs / Add-on plans having 30 days validity from 16-07-2015 onwards.
Currently, BSNL offers the lowest and economical 3G/2G Data plans and offers for it’s customers in prepaid and postpaid categories. BSNL’s Unlimited 3G data plans are best suited for heavy data usage always online customers.
BSNL Kerala Circle has also announced it’s plan to upgrade the existing 3G Network by adding around 2000 towers across the state. They has started the commissioning of new 3G/2G mobile towers as part of Digital India programme.
BSNL had opened WiFi hotspots in 10 locations in Ernakulam and three location in Kozhikode on July 1,2015. As per reports, 1000 more locations were being examined for providing this facility. See more details about BSNL QFI WiFi Services below:
The Unlimited Free Nigh Calling facility introduced by the company on May 1 had also worked in its favour. BSNL Kerala circle received 28,000
orders for new land line connection and 35,000 applications for
broadband service during May and June this year.

BSNL Kerala Circle has also started upgrading it’s Landline Telephone exchanges to IP based Next Generation Network (NGN). The first phase of Next Generation Network (NGN) rollout in the state would be completed in July 2015. The NGN switch at Mattam in Thrissur was commissioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 1.
NGN is envisaged to bring convergence between landline and mobile network. As many as 87,500 lines were planned in its first phase, of which 73,000 lines were commissioned replacing the older digital circuit switches. In the second phase, 300,000 lines are planned for commissioning by the end of 2015.
BSNL is taking all efforts to regain it’s market share by launching attractive and competitive offers in Mobile and Landline / Broadband segments. We may hope these efforts will bring changes in the financial position and performance of BSNL in the coming days.
